The Keene Chorale, winner of the 2018 Ewing Award for performance art, invites you to join them for a mid-summer sing of African American spirituals. This “Feel the Spirit” event begins with a practice session to learn the music, including familiar songs such as “Wade in the Water” and “Ain’-a That Good News.” Pianist Vladimir Odinokikh will accompany the singers. The Chorale’s dynamic director Cailin Marcel Manson will not only conduct the group but lend his rich baritone voice to the performance of several solo pieces, including “There is Balm in Gilead,” “My Lord What A Morning,” and “Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho.” The event is on Thursday, August 2, at the United Church of Christ on Central Square and is free to all singers. Registration for the event begins at 3:45; the group will begin rehearsing at 4:00. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
